The history of VacanceSelect

In the 1970s/1980s, Dutch entrepreneur Loek van de Loo started out with a small campsite at Lake Garda. His ambition: to give families and groups an accessible, enjoyable and comfortable holiday in nature. What began as an olive grove with tents gradually grew into a small travel organization, built around the idea of offering holidaymakers across Europe a complete experience. Loek was also forward-looking: he wanted to make booking easier and more transparent for families.

1999

VacanceSelect launches its very first booking website. One of the earliest steps towards making holiday planning simple and convenient.

2000

The brand name VacanceSelect is officially introduced.

2005

The portfolio grows to more than 150 campsites in 8 countries, with an increasing focus on comfort and family-friendly services.

2010

VacanceSelect establishes itself as a major player in luxury camping and glamping — perfectly aligned with Loek’s original vision.

2018

Vacalians, a large French camping chain acquires Vacanceselect and starts using the name Vacanceselect to unify its distribution platforms under Vacanceselect.com

2020

The Covid-19 pandemic impacts the travel industry, but camping and outdoor holidays remain resilient — showing the lasting appeal of the original idea.

2023

European Camping Group (backed by PAI Partners) announces the acquisition of VacanceSelect, taking the company into a broader European platform.

2023

Camping Vision, the group behind the brands Allcamps, LuxCamp, Friferie and Dansk Bilferie, is taking over the VacanceSelect brand. The brand is being relaunched and its portfolio is rapidly expanding with holiday parks and family resorts.

2025

Camping Vision officially changes its name to VacanceSelect Travel. This name change reflects the company’s ambition to operate under a stronger and more recognizable umbrella brand. The rebranding also aligns the company’s identity more closely with its broader portfolio, which now includes not only campsites but also holiday parks, resorts and hotel chains.

 

The company continues to bring “Happy Family Holidays” to thousands of families across Europe. A clear reflection of Loek’s early ambitions.
